Petty Officer 1st.Class Takeski Hirano was
one of the nine Zero pilots, that failed to return to their carriers, the lost fighters were due to anti-aircraft fire over Pearl Harbor.
Hirano was assigned to the Carrier Akagi and was part of a nine fighter escort for Aichi D3A1 Type 99 "Val" dive-bombers,and was lost to anti-aircraft fire from the destroyer
USS Helm, pilot KIA in the crash and was later buried at Scofield Barracks Cemetery on 12/9/41.
The wreckage of his A6M2, Model 21 Zero s/n 5289 Tail number AI-154, was salvaged for technical evaluation.
The Zero was later shipped to Wright Field
Ohio, USA. Fate of the wreckage is unknown.
CRASHED ENEMY AIRCRAFT REPORTS:
After the Pearl Harbor raid both the US Army and Navy wrote seperate reports and didn't
coordinate technical information about the
Japanese aircraft shotdown during the raid
Reports were forwarded to each technical and intelligence section.

the crashed zero, was flown by Petty Officer 1st. Class Takeshi Hirano, from the carrier Akagi. tail number A1-154. Hirano crashed into Ft. Kamehameha's ordnance machine shop.Hirano died in the crash. 4 American servicemen on the ground, also died,as a result of the crash during the Pearl Harbor Attack Dec.7, 1941. Hiran's zero was shipped to Wright Field, Ohio for study.
